Re-purposing of the Kruithuis one step closer

With the selection of Binx-Smartility / Koninklijke Woudenberg, the construction team for the Kruithuis is now complete. The city council of 's Hertogenbosch previously approved the planned redevelopment and restoration of the Kruithuis. This brings the future for the striking national monument as a fortress and water museum one step closer.

In recent years, BiermanHenket has been intensively involved in the re-designation and restoration of the seventeenth-century Kruithuis. A design was made together with consultancy and engineering firm Witteveen+Bosch, the Kring Vrienden van 's Hertogenbosch, and the municipality. Building consortium Binx-Smartility / Koninklijke Woudenberg will carry out the transformation. “Now that the construction team is complete, we work together on the further elaboration of the redevelopment and restoration based on the final design. The new museum function has been integrated into the historic building in a subdued manner. The sustainability of the monument is also carefully and respectfully implemented. The building will be fitted with a new air-conditioning system and the building envelope will be suitably insulated,” says project architect Joep van As. The restoration will start this autumn, and the Kruithuis is expected to be open to the public as a museum in the summer of 2022.
